Mix liquids well. Add to dry ingredients and mix. Bake 35 minutes at 350°F. Boil frosting ingredients together 1 minute. Stir until partly cool. Add 2 ts vanilla. Variations: Increase soda to 2 ts, omit baking powder, add pinch salt, add 2 tb seedless blackberry jam; heaping. (Mrs. W. E.
