* Exported from MasterCook * No-Molasses Gingerbread Recipe By : Southern Living Annual Recipes Cookbook Serving Size : 9 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Cake Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 ts Baking soda 1/2 c Cane syrup 1/2 c Butter -- softened 1/2 c Sugar 2 lg Eggs -- lightly beaten 1 1/2 c All-purpose flour 1 ts Ground cinnamon 1/2 ts Ground ginger 1/4 ts Ground cloves 1/4 ts Salt 1/2 c Water Combine soda and syrup; set aside. Beat butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in syrup mixture. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients; add to butter mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9-inch square pan. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
