* Exported from MasterCook * Saucy Apple Cake Recipe By : Taste of Home Magazine Serving Size : 9 Preparation Time :0:40 Categories : Cakes Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 c Sugar 1/4 c Shortening 1 Egg -- slightly beaten 1 c Flour 1 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Cinnamon 1/4 ts Salt 2 c Tart apples -- shredded, peeled 1/4 c Walnuts -- chopped Sauce: 1 c Sugar 2 tb Corn starch 1/2 c Light cream 1/2 c Butter 1 1/2 ts Vanilla extract In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and mix well. Add the dry ingredients; mix well. Fold in the apples and walnuts. Spread in a greased 8" square baking pan. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes or until cake tests done. For sauce, combine sugar, corn starch, and cream in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add butter and vanilla; stir until butter is melted.
