MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06 Title: Easy Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Cobbler Categories: Desserts, Fruits, Herbs, Pastry Yield: 8 Servings 1/3 c Sugar 1/3 c Brown sugar; packed 3 tb A-P flour 1/2 ts Ground cinnamon ds Ground cloves 4 lg Tart apples; peeled, sliced 2 tb Butter; cold MMMMM--------------------------TOPPING------------------------------- 1 c A-P flour 2 tb Sugar 1 1/2 ts Baking powder 1/2 ts Salt 1/3 c Shortening or lard 3 tb Milk 1 lg Egg MMMMM--------------------------OPTIONAL------------------------------- Vanilla ice cream -OR- Whipped cream Set oven @ 350°F/175°C. In a large bowl, combine sugars, flour, cinnamon, and cloves. Add apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 8" square baking dish. Dot with butter. In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg; stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Drop by tablespoons full over apple mixture. Bake until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm, with ice cream or heavy cream and cinnamon, if desired.
