MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Cherry Kiss Cookies

      Yield: 54 Cookies

      1 c  Butter; softened
      1 c  Confectioners' sugar
    1/2 ts Salt
      2 ts Maraschino cherry juice
    1/2 ts Almond extract
      6 dr Red food coloring
           - (optional)
  2 1/4 c  A-P flour
    1/2 c  Maraschino cherries;
           - chopped
     54    Milk chocolate kisses;
           - unwrapped

  Set oven @ 350°F/175°C.

  In a large bowl, beat butter, confectioners' sugar, and salt until
  blended. Beat in cherry juice, extract and, if desired, food
  coloring. Gradually beat in flour. Stir in cherries.

  Shape dough into 1" balls. Place 1" apart on greased baking
  sheets.

  Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until bottoms are light brown. Immediately
  press a chocolate kiss into center of each cookie. Cookie will
  crack around edge. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to
  cool.
