      Title: Oatmeal Chocolate Candy Cookies
 Categories: Cookies
      Yield: 36 Cookies
 
      1 c  Granulated sugar
      1 c  Brown sugar; firmly packed
      1 c  Butter; softened
      2    Eggs
      1 tb Vanilla
      2 c  All-purpose flour
  1 1/2 c  Quick-cooking oats
      1 ts Baking soda
    1/2 ts Salt
      2 c  Candy-coated milk chocolate
           - pieces such as M&M's
      1 c  Salted peanuts;
           - coarse chopped
 
  Combine granulated and brown sugars, butter, eggs and vanilla in a
  large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed,
  scraping the sides of the bowl often, until light and fluffy, about
  2 to 3 minutes.
  
  Add flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Beat at low speed, scraping
  sides of bowl often, until well-mixed, about 2 to 3 minutes. By
  hand, stir in candy and peanuts. Drop dough by scant 1/4-cupfuls 2"
  apart onto greased cookie sheets.
  
  Bake in a preheated 350°F oven until light golden brown, about 14
  to 18 minutes.
  
  Served at the Chicago 1996 Democratic National Convention.
