                          Swedish Coconut Balls

   1      c             Butter
   1      c             Shortening
   2      c             Sugar
   1      ts            Vanilla extract
   2      ts            Baking ammonia --
                        - ammonium carbonate
   1      pn            Salt
   2      c             Coconut -- flaked
   4      c             Flour

Cream butter, shortening, sugar, vanilla. Sift flour with baker's
ammonia and salt. Stir in flour mixture and coconut.

Preheat oven to 325°F. Shape dough into balls the size of a walnut.
Place 2-1/2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 325°F oven for
15 minutes. Don't open the oven door while cookies are baking.

Notes:

I got this recipe from my cousin Jeannette. I have no idea where she
got it. She has actually made it, but I've never found the baking
ammonia.
