MMMMM---- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06 Title: Grandma's Apple Strudel Categories: Fruits, Spices, Pastry, Desserts Yield: 10 Servings MMMMM----------------------APPLE FILLING----------------------------- 6 c Apples; peeled, sliced 1/2 c A-P flour 1 c Sugar 1 ts Ground cinnamon MMMMM--------------------------CRUST--------------------------------- 3 3/4 c A-P flour 1/2 ts Salt 1 tb Sugar 1 1/2 c Shortening 2 Eggs yolks; plus: Water; to equal 1 cup 1 Egg white MMMMM---------------------ICING/FROSTING----------------------------- 1 c Powdered sugar 2 tb Milk or half & half cream 1/2 ts Vanilla extract Mix apple slices, sugar, 1/2 cup flour and 1 ts cinnamon for the filling. Set aside. Mix the remaining ingredients for pie crust, reserving 1 egg white. Divide dough in two pieces. Roll out half of the dough to fit a 10x15" jelly roll pan with sides. Cover with apple mixture. Roll out top crust. Cover with top crust. Brush top with egg white. Slit crust. Bake @ 350°F/175°C for 45 to 60 minutes. For the icing, mix 1 cup powdered sugar and 1/2 ts vanilla with enough cream or milk to make a thin frosting. Mix well and spread over hot crust.
