* Exported from MasterCook * Savory Chili Recipe By : The Southern Living Cookbook, 1987, 8487-0709-5 Serving Size : 10 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Chili Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 4 Celery ribs with leaves -- - chopped 3 Green onions -- chopped 2 cl Garlic -- minced 1 lg Onion -- chopped 1 Green pepper -- chopped 1 tb Vegetable oil 2 lb Ground beef 15 oz Tomato sauce 6 oz Tomato paste 2 c Water 1 1/2 oz Can chili powder 1 ts Salt 1 ds Pepper 16 oz Can kidney beans -- undrained Condiments (optional) Sauté first 5 ingredients in oil in a large Dutch oven until tender. Add ground beef, and brown, stirring to crumble meat. Drain well. Add tomato sauce and next 5 ingredients to beef mixture; stir well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or to desired consistency. Add beans the last 15 minutes. Serve with the following condiments, if desired: shredded lettuce, shredded Cheddar cheese, diced onion, and tortilla chips.
