-- 0232 UTC Remotely working is a joy compared to the panopticon experience. There was a shitstorm at work, and I would have did my thang to clean that up in office, it would have taken double the amount of time to do so, and it would have been a late nite. While at home, even with the din of the family (They were all home today, sub zero temps and wind chills tend to make schools close here), I was still able to focus much better and work more efficiently than I would have been able to do otherwise. I hope mgmt figures this out quickly. There's a reason the happy people in the office are the minority now. The folks who are happy have a private office/team office. I would actually love it if my team had a single room to be in. I like working with people on my team when needed, most of the time, we're all quietly working, but sometimes, we used to roll our chair into the aisle, bs a bit, and talk over some arch issues. There's none of that now, because everyone is wearing headphones now, to muffle the grinding noise of 300+ people in an open area. Collaboration has bottomed out, and we only collaborate in our chat room, and even that is limited now, due to... The "sensitivty training" this year seems to be getting taken very seriously. Yes, we used to make some jokes, that we would all remark,"And, this is why we are all destined for hell.." Or, we would be quite jocular or blunt whenever we discussed someone who is being, quite frankly, fucking stupid. This is now no more. Even our team's chat room is being "invaded" by people with overly sensitive sensibilities. ie, calling someone out for failing to perform their job is "Being too negative and degrading to that team." Adilbly denouncing decisions made that negativley impact the company's bottom line, is now considered "obstructing one from doing their job, and creating a hostile work environment." I, personally, have now receded into no longer talking to anyone outside of my team, and doing so only in the private team chat room. In the public team chat room, I minimize any interactions to the barest possible interaction, to prevent blowback. But, on a plus note: Cold temps meant the whole family was home today, which meant it felt like a holiday to me. I enjoy being around the wife and kids, even if she's doing her work for the day, and I'm doing mine, and we're mearly in the same room, working on different things. My two kids generally stay in their rooms, doing their stuff too, but seeing and hearing them during the day going about their business, is something else I love, and thoroughly enjoy. My eldest is starting college next year. If he moves away, I do know for a fact, I'll miss having him around, even though he is an asshole, like his dad :) RE: ~camellirite I get the same experience everytime I log into The Towne. I lose track of time here very easily, with tending my garden, the feels browsing, chat, bbj...
