2021-07-20 from the editor of ~insom ------------------------------------------------------------ Update to my last post: I did make a shader to turn my X11 session amber, and I also switched back to X11 because I was getting exactly nothing from Wayland except fighting issues I've fixed with X11 10 years ago. I just got my second Pfizer shot -- my arm hurt but less than the first time and I had some wicked weird dreams and terrible sleep. On balance I think I feel better than from the first shot. It's all definitely worth it, and happily my workplace gives people time off for recovery from vaccination. In terms of `/now` content -- I'm re-learning some Win32 programming in C/C++ (keeping it C for as long as possible, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to go to C++ at some point). I have Windows running on a Raspberry Pi 400 and I want to be able to toggle the GPIOs all the way from a Windows .exe -- because why not, I guess? I'm learning how to be "good at lathe" with a tiny Sherline metal lathe. It's fun; I have no special project in mind. Turning aluminium and brass so far with no issues. Finally, I'm once again thinking about how to refurb my Tektronix scopes -- I have two because of a shipping mistake. I plan to keep one close to stock and authentic (but working), but modernize the other one with custom plugins. I should at least get a new XY display out of it -- I feel that's where my "effort/payoff" ratio will flip because, after all, I have much better scopes for getting real work done.
