Election happened. Trump won. There are a number of reasons why ## Rightward Shift The nation as a whole has been shifting rightward. This manifests in two ways: - More people, mostly young white men, join the alt right, therefore being likely to support Trump - The Democrats ratchet right to try and get this demographic. It doesn't work. The result is: - Trump gets more support because of increasing fascism, which his base loves. - Kamala gets less support because of increasing fascism, which alienates her base. There is no doubt that Kamala's position on Palestine lost her the Arab vote, Muslim vote, broader MENA vote, and some of the youth vote. ## Misogyny and Racism It's very likely Kamala lost votes due to being a woman of color. This does not absolve her of running a platform based on catering to the right. ## But how do I feel about it? Honestly, since the extermination of Palestinians started in October last year, I've been way less hopeful of the Democratic Party's lesser evilism. The electoral failure just cements for me that liberalism cannot defeat fascism. I cannot in good faith endorse the Democratic party. It's time to build an actual leftist platform.
