Alright, the battery in that iPhone lasts for a day at most, if I use it
a lot. If it's just lying around, it's probably 2-4 days. This isn't
particularly great. It's a lot shorter than my previous phone. I still
can't really decide if I want to keep using it. I *probably* will ...

As for transferring files off of the phone, I got a couple of
suggestions from people out there. Thank you! Still, I'll *probably*
keep using `http-collect`, because that doesn't require any app on the
phone and it also works with the Android phone that I use at work.

`http-collect` now shows a QR code that I can scan on a phone, which
will open a browser and then I can upload the files. So, zero
configuration needed on the phones.

I have to say, QR codes work much better on iPhones than on Android. My
older Android phone can't handle them at all, which is pretty sad. The
one I use at work does, but only through "Google Lens", which isn't as
seamless as on the iPhone.

It has also been brought to my attention (again), that support cycles
are just absolutely terrible on Android. I often choose to ignore that,
but it's true. I mean, I already had an Android phone which was just 3
or 4 years old, but I still had to buy a new one, because mine didn't
get any updates anymore and I was forced to install modern apps. (Let's
just accept/ignore the fact that manufacturers decide which updates you
get -- unlike PCs, where I'm the one who decides, which allows me to run
a brand-new OpenBSD on my Pentium 133 from the 1990ies.) So, yeah, it
might even be *cheaper* in the long run to buy iPhones. The iPhone 5s I
have now is *much older* than my previous Android phone, but still
supported. This situation might force me to really buy an iPhone as my
next phone. God, that hurts.

I haven't read a lot about the PinePhone, yet. I hope it comes with some
sort of Android compatibility, because if it doesn't, then it's almost
useless: So many services are only available via an Android or iOS app.
If the phone runs something else, you're stumped. (And does it still
work if it does run Android but none of those Google services? Does it
work without a Google account?)

Then again: You can't even use a custom ringtone without being coerced
to buy something on iTunes. You can't just grab some MP3 or AAC file and
use that. Nope. Not possible. The internet claims that you can use
custom files by copying them via the iTunes program ... but come on.

I can't wrap my head around this. There are nerds out there who *defend*
the iPhone and claim that it's a great product, a great platform. How is
this possible? I don't understand.

And I haven't even started looking into writing my own apps for that
thing. I bet that's impossible without having a Mac.

I've decided to keep the iPhone, because it has a better camera and I
got it for free ("nem geschenkte Gaul schautmer net ins Maul").

But I won't invest anything anymore, especially not money. If anything
breaks, and be it the charging cable, then so be it. This has already
cost me enough time and mental energy.
