A Review of the Business ``Proton Mail'' I've reviewed books, video games, albums of music, films, and even a genre of video game; in lieu of good things to review, I may as well start reviewing businesses, those I've been unlucky to meet and those whose existence I mind not. This first review will concern a cartel member I know well enough to hate, one of the many ``technology'' businesses whose worthless existence serves only to destroy. The domain name of that business now follows: https://proton.me Everything this business does is ostensibly in service of ``security'', a now-meaningless term which corporations use to justify controlling others in ways that will eventually be illegal if these scum are killed in their pursuit to control all of humanity. I was rather forced to make an account with this business for the simple reason of its cartel membership. I host e-mail under my rented domain, and never bothered setting up anything beyond GNU Emacs with rmail on the mail file using the stupid mbox format; it's not entirely convenient to write e-mails with the Emacs instance on the other side of secure shell, but it's good enough and I can't be bothered to improve it. However, a self-hosted e-mail system insuffices for some purposes, such as avoiding the correlation of separate identities. I made an account, several truly, with the free mail service cock.li, which offers many delightfully offensive domain names such as nuke.africa, 420blaze.it, horsefucker.org, waifu.club, and many more. I believe cock.li to be trustworthy for simple reasons of its character; this business, on the other hand, claims to fight against governments and receives nowhere near such harrassment, conspicuously. I painstakingly spent nearly an entire day configuring the Gnus system of GNU Emacs to work and work well with a true e-mail provider, and this worked for many years, but eventually e-mails sent to the e-mail providers' cartel were silently dropped on the floor, particularly by Google's e-mail system. I only made an account with the business because e-mail has been centralized to the point whitelists are used rather than blacklists, and it was suggested to me as the least offensive option. Later, I noticed the advertising to lie about true e-mail access. No true SMTP or POP access is allowed, all from the excuse of ``security'' to require a worthless, specialized client for an imitation of such. I was mostly forced into this at around that same time I realized schizophrenically avoiding cartels to be pointless and around the same time my latest laptop bought specifically to help me in avoiding such things died. I was left with an Apple iPad as the only device I owned capable of running a new WWW browser, a requirement to access this business without an ``app'', and I would never bestow unto Apple Computer access to my true e-mail, so it seemed inoffensive enough after all of these burdens. Eventually, I was tricked into paying the business to get more space, horrified by the idea I'd lose access to the account if I used its specialized backup program from my rented server without paying; such would be the obvious place for an intelligence operation to fuck over its users optimally. The business has so far managed to get dozens of dollars from me, meaningless in the grand scheme, and I loathe that I've never donated to cock.li for lack of Bitcoin to send.
