Thoughts Concerning the Previous Year and the Current Decade Even treating each year as if it could be my last, I know I'll die unfulfilled, but life isn't about fulfillment or happiness. I wrote little last year, but that's not unusual when compared to some of the other years, and I wrote more than the least at least. I travelled again this year, to the same purpose as last year, and it was one of the highlights. My health is good and I've made light steps to improve it. I completely failed to work on something different each month with last year, and to attempt the same this year seems unwise, but I'll likely try it again, anyway. The highlight of the previous few months has been learning Decker, and I'll present my first deck soon at the very least. The toys and gizmos I wanted to create last January are still in my mind; I really should free them. Something became clear to me late last year: I suppose this sobriquet suffered because I put so much more work into another. That second sobriquet had its best year so far last year, for I put so much effort into its work, which has earned a significant sum of money. It occasionally amuses me how my lesser identity makes infinitely more money than this primary which has made not a cent nor satoshi, although I've no means to accept Bitcoin yet. I've become more comfortable auditing code this year, and should finally sit down to read that last good Bitcoin iteration before ripping out the wireless hardware from an old laptop I've had rotting around. I should generate a trusted private key first. Both of these simple jobs were set aside for last year as well, and ignored all too easily, however. I've begun to learn more about that neural network nonsense, but haven't much played with it at all. I implemented no standard network protocols, but implemented one simple throwaway protocol, and have started learning Erlang lately to enable myself to write more in earnest. Both my Meta-Machine Code tool and Elision have languished for another year, for the most part. I've also made no progress in my Latin studies; I've been intending to reread the book quickly for this month's review, and figure I'll rush myself through that in the next fortnight, which should be easy enough, at the very least. I suppose I've become less hateful over the last year. I also purchased a new laptop which returned to me my previous sense of control, and I figure this to have been one rather important improvement. Now that I'm playing with Decker, I'd like to audit and play with IBNIZ too sometime with this year. It looks like the only significant code I released last year was that which generates my Gopher Hole and website. I need to make my latest changes public, and make my website wholly generated like so. As for the decade so far, I recall those trying to enter it with hope which was immediately crushed. Shortly after it began, I became the sickest I've been in my life, for several weeks. Afterwards, I avoided taking a poisonous medicine. Evil has only progressed in the past five years, with religion acting mostly via false hope to dissuade those who would strike it down. It occurs to me I ought to be more displeased with what I've accomplished in the past five years, but it occurs to me also that I'd be displeased regardless. I'm not suicidal but, were I, killing evil would be the task at hand. The decade so far has also shown to me that copyright only matters for the wealthy. I tried to take it seriously, but it can't possibly fucking matter nowadays when Richie Rich gets to take from every man and plagiarize his work through a machine; even worse than the current state is a world in which only the wealthy or corporations have copyright, which is precisely the future desired by these evil ``people''. There's no point in ``playing fair'' when the rules are changed on a whim like this, to condescending calls commanding men to try again next time with new terms added, until the next heist happens and accomplishes much of the same. So-called ``clean room reverse engineering'' and whatnot are a farce. Corporations in the US aren't held to account, so their monopolies surviving solely by the government have no basis in reality. Their source code should be taken from them, their private keys leaked, and their workers killed alongside their owners; there's nothing too bad to do to them. It would be ironic were I to accomplish more this year without any clear plan on what to do; perhaps I'll manage to polish and publish a great deal of the work and ideas I've been sitting on for years. .
