Subj : RTL-SDR on steroids ; To : Holger Granholm From : Richard Menedetter Date : Mon Aug 22 2016 08:45 am Hi Holger! 21 Aug 2016 10:13, from Holger Granholm -> Richard Menedetter: RM>> Maybe somebody is interested in the RTL-SDR software defined radio RM>> ultra cheap receivers. HG> Oh yes, maybe I could advertise too, all the receiving and HG> transmitting tubes, I still have, after laying off my Radio-TV HG> service!!! I am in no way affiliated with that product, except that I ordered one myself. I think it is a good proposition, so I wanted to share it with my fellow ham colleagues. I am sorry that you see it differently! It is an updated version of the standard DVB-T dongle with amateur features for twice the price. As far as I know no other RTL-SDR dongle supports those. The only other similar product I know of is flighaware (geared towards ADS-B reception) that comes with a built in LNA for a similar price point. But it lacks the direct sampling mode that is important for HAM use. The "normal" SDRs (~10 USD) need a HW modidification to enable direct sampling. Could you explain to me where you draw the line between "advertising" and "sharing the excitment for a product that I just ordered myself". It would also be interesting how others see it.
