Subj : Possible Dupes To : All From : Fred Riccio Date : Fri Nov 18 2016 01:04 pm test test... Is this thing turned on? There were lots of systems in the seen-bys of the rules posting, but no traffic since I joined this echo a few weeks ago. I'd like to make an offer for you to join in on the fun. See below. * Forwarded from FIDO_SYSOP by Fred Riccio (1:132/174). * Originally by: Fred Riccio (1:132/174), 18 Nov 16 12:22. * Originally to: All (1:2320/100). ========== Forwarded message ========== Hello All! There has been lots of talk of dupes in this echo, and it tempted me to continue working on a project I started quite a while ago. For lack of a better term, I'll call it an external dupe catcher. It works off the raw packet files, so it should be compatible with any message base/bbs/tosser. It's a Win32 "console" app that I have successfully run under Win NT/2000 and Win 10. I'm guessing it will run on anything in between. I will also compile a *nix version, but you will have to figure out for yourself which libraries you need to make it run (it has been done before with other utilities I have written using this compiler). Same with OS/2. Features: - Checks Message header (To, From, Subject, Date written). - Checks Message ID control line. - Checks message text (from end of control lines through origin line). - You control how sensitive it is... specify 1, 2 or 3 of the above criteria required before a message is called a dupe. - You control the size of the dupe database. - You decide what to do when it finds duplicate messages. Report only, rebuild packet and delete the original, or rebuild packet and rename the original. - No complicated installation or configuration files. Because of the nature of this beast, you must be willing to do a little batch file magic. Either get raw .pkt files from your feed (not *.MO? bundles) or unpack them yourself and delete the bundles before your tosser runs. I can share my .bat files if necessary. Are you interested in testing this out? Send me NetMail to the address below and I'll set up a private echo for the testers and send you a copy of the program. --- Msged/NT 6.0.1 * Origin: Somewhere in New Hampshire's White Mountains (1:132/174) .
