I suppose the right thing to do is to realise people won't have their minds changed, no matter how great an argument you think you have, so just avoid those topics and get on with one another like grown-ups. If you can't do that, though, it's probably better to stay apart - like squabbling children sent to their respective rooms, until eventually they miss each other enough to sneak across the hallway and play together again. When I say "you", I don't mean you personally. Just the prospective arguer. FWIW the strength of the division does seem a bit wild to us outsiders, or at least this one.
