And you might see your own work completely different compared to Mi> how someone else sees it. Yeah, I do try to keep that in mind. Especially with my perceived favoritism toward petscii; people grew up being exposed to different things, and while I grew up with BBSs, I did not grow up with any computer from Commodore, and even my Amiga exposure has been from whatever things I see from the demoscene. And that different exposure means something. Mi> well, you never know. Its maybe better not to compare yourself to much Mi> with someone else, but try to find your own style. Oh, I'm aware on that one, and have kind of resisted training certain ANSI skills because of having the BBS-influenced style in what I make. But I was comparing to Luisa because she works in the industry, has done more art stuff than I will likely _ever_ do, and has skills well beyond ANSI. It's not a comparison where I'm thinking negatively about my own skills; it's that she's skilled in areas and quantities that are not reasonably _possible_ for me. I don't feel worse about that; it's like with my juggling skills. I am very good at it. If I walk into some place with 300 people and it's not a juggling convention, I work under the assumption that I'm the best juggler there. But there are a _lot_ of jugglers out there with skills that I could never hope to approach, even if they're 20 years older than me. Even if there might very well be a trick or two that I can do that they (currently) can't. Mi> Oh really! i wish i knew. i went to their voting page during the live Yeah, I was only aware of it because of having seen an announcement about it in the Discord channel on the Demoscene server. (And I know a variety of people who'd never make it to Discord servers, for reasonable reasons.) Mi> Thatswhy i try to get used to making SID music, but i am used to work Mi> "visually". I'm also a visual learner. Weirdly, when you say that, I tend to think of tracking as _being_ very visual. Because it's not as imprecise as a lot of music, where you have to feel a beat or something -- you just see when the sample will start playing, and what relative pitch it'll have. Mi> programs like goattracker or cheesecutter are completely non "visual" in Mi> the way they work. Quite abstract. Just alot of numbers and letters, Mi> even in the instrument editor etc. Still, I could see how it could have a challenging learning curve, all the same. When I've played around with music things, I've used OpenMPT (made by SagaMusix, who is a famous demoscener), and so I view that as the default. But not like I'm good with it, especially with all the extra features he's built into it. Though, with making music things, at this point I think I only want stuff because I need it for some demo that I hope to eventually get around to creating. Realistically, "find someone else to make the music" is the option I should choose, but getting music that matches up with whatever storyline I was going for would be the challenge. Mi> So you can't just use those trackers intuitively. Almost always a Text Mi> based User Interface (TUI). It is a bit complicated but i'm sure i can Mi> learn that and get it into my head. at least i gonna try. =) Good luck! And, yeah, that steep part of the learning curve is always hard to get passed. And it's never quite certain if it's worth the effort, until you're passed it. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A48 (Linux/64) * Origin: Storm BBS (21:2/108) .
