Back in May Microsoft released a new version of Edit:

"This editor pays homage to the classic MS-DOS Editor, but with a modern interface and input controls similar to VS Code. The goal is to provide an accessible editor that even users largely unfamiliar with terminals can easily use."

There are binaries available for Intel & ARM Windows (64 bit) as well as Intel/Arm Linux (64 bit).  You can also compile from source (written in rust).

It comes included with Windows 11 25H2 and can be downloaded from the official github link for other versions of Windows:

I especially like the familiar menu at the top with File Edit View Help along with the familiar key mapping (ALT-F for the file menu, CTRL-F for find, etc).  The native mouse support is also a nice touch.

If you're running it on Linux also run:
sudo apt-get install libicu-dev

For find & replace to function.
