Nortel started doing SIP, but it wasn't very open - it was mostly using their controllers to manage proprietary phones. We did do SIP trunking between switches, replacing MPLS, and I was going to look at SIP to SIP with Asterisk for an acquisition we purchased, but we ended up moving them into one of our existing offices.
