If the reply came back to 220, then you sent the netmail as 220 still. You may not have known you did it, but that's how netmail works.

Either way, you shouldn't need an MPL to do any of that for you. Now that you have 220 shut off, get rid of any configuration you have for it on your BBS, and 229 should be all that's left for Fidonet.
