I wasn't aware that FSX_RETRO was limited solely to older tech. I had
understood the description to mean 'retro computing and/or (any) tech chat'.
My mistake... :)

I could see a use for such an echo area. But, as you say, there's no point in
creating it, if it's going to be wasted, and it seems that any tech
discussions are already taking place...
