I happened to come across this recently: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The F I D O N E W S Volume 19, Number 42 21 Oct 2002 6. GETTING FIDONET TECHNICAL ................................ 13 Implementing a common standard for a higher BBS interfa .. 13 [snip] Implementing a common standard for a higher BBS interface layer Petko Bossakov, 2:535/1 I have to start with this: Fidonet is in a decline. Nobody doubts that, and it has been repeated many times. I would like to reflect on a very basic reason for this. [snip] :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: It's an interesting article. Were there any working examples of building the "Univeral BBS GUI" ? Does anyone remember and further chatter about the matter? Perhaps Petko did not envision the development of "Apps" a few years later on smartphones. But it is interesting that he recognized a need from the user POV for a simple common way to access the myriad of scattered BBSes everywhere, especially if BBSing was to attract more users. This is not unlike what some of us here have mentioned would be useful from the pov of a user and their tablet/smartphone. ../|ug --- OpenXP 5.0.45 * Origin: The future is not what it used to be.
