Oh my.. that brings back a memory.  I believe I used that too.  I had a  
Waffle gateway to the usenet/internet.

Precisely.  The whole automated proces is what sold me to the idea of  
enjoying messages.   I hated tying up a phone line while navigating a BBS  
manually.   But, I loved the bidirectional Zmodem with chat.  That was too  
cool back in the day.
