The topic. Topics should relate to radio in general, but try to keep it as close to Amateur (HAM) radio as possible. There is no topic about radio that is off-topic. Be forwarned, No-Code vs Code is a viable topic for discussion here. CB radio is not a tabu here, but I also moderate the CB_RADIO conference and would prefer that any discussion about CB be taken there. 2. Decorum. NO blatant profanity, flames, insults or slander. Regardless of your actual circumstances, please act as a mature, responsible adult while participating in HAM. 3. Disputes with others. Any disputes with other echo users will be in a gentlemanly or ladylike manner. Please leave the moderating to the moderator. If you have a dispute with the moderator, see section 8. Those conference users who do not have access to Email or netmail should advise a moderator of their situation, here. I'll do my best to provide you with a means of communication to resolve any question or situation you may have. |C 4a. Edit your Quotes! Keep your quoting to the minimum necessary to establish the context of your reply. Certainly, don't quote more than you originate. |C Do not include the other persons - hello, goodbye, "In a |C message to" lines, offline mail reader signatures, taglines, |C mail tosser PID lines or origin lines in your quote unless |C you are specifically replying to them. | 4b. Misc message do's and don'ts. English is the official language of the HAM echo. For those whose 'first' language is English, make sure you check your spelling and correct your grammar. Let's set an example for those whose 'first' language isn't English. Having to agree with what anyone else says is not a requirement for this conference. Disagree with opinions if you must, but do not attack the person. | This is not the place to display advertisements for any | other echo or your BBS. I advertise this echo in ECHO-ADS | and expect you to do the same. Taglines; Do not use any controversial taglines in the HAM conference. 5. Conference access. The HAM conference is NOT bound by FidoNet! It's open to any network and system that wishes to carry it. | I have plans to incorporate a 'mailing list' type of internet | access to this echo. Anyone wishing to participate via an | internet mailing list, please forward your intentions to me via | netmail or to my email address. You must have permission from the HAM echo moderator to post here if you're participating via the internet mailing list. Gating or cross-posting of the HAM conference to any other conference and/or networks will not be permitted without explicit permission from the moderator(s). 6. Use your real name. All messages posted in the HAM echo will contain the REAL name of the poster. Alias' are preferred in the body of the message, but may be used in the FROM: field with permission of the moderator. Messages originating on/from the internet mailing list will have the posters email address in the header of the message. The post must be signed by the poster and the maillist must show the gateway being used to post in this echo. 7. Commercial Use. Commercial use of an echo in Fidonet is frowned upon. Secondly, sysops are paying for the transport of this conference out of their own pockets, and don't want to foot the bill for commercial advertising. However, store owners or businessmen MAY respond to want-ads from people looking for specific products. If someone asks "where can I get a blah-blah-blah?" feel free to respond if you have a blah-blah-blah in stock. You may post an occasional "press release" type of message if you have a _new_ or unique product that is of interest to the conference participants. Advice, comments, and recommendations about commercial products in response to a question are always appropriate. 8. Loopholes. These rules are a living document and I reserve the right to change them as I deem necessary. Unless specifically excepted, discussion of the rules of this conference is off topic. These are the rules. Read them. Learn them. Live them. Love them. However, I am open to suggestion for any change which a user may wish to suggest. I may not implement your ideas or rules change, but don't let fear hold you back. All disputes with the Moderator(s) WILL be handled in private Netmail or Email and not in the echo. My method of handling those who post a dispute with the moderator will be to cut their access to this echo and then we'll talk. Don't make me do it. Any input (via netmail or E-mail) is always welcome. The addresses are listed at the beginning of this document.
