It would be nice to know for sure what happened to him. And it would be nice to know who, if anyone, is responsible for technical support for the games. Most of us paid money for a legal registration of LORD, and that entitled us to technical support I think. Many people want to know if the games are indeed abandon-ware, dead-ware, etc -- or not. They may not express that sentiment on Fidonet, but it doesn't mean that it is not a question that most LORD fans are continually wondering about. Part of the problem with writing to Michael Preslar directly, at least in my case, is that he often ignored my legitimate bug reports in the past two years period -- until someone else made them also. And of course, he seemed to love to scream at me in email which I just got tired of. So I pretty much gave up trying to communicate with him via email. And he abandoned Fidonet's BBS echoes like this one over a year ago, if I remember correctly. One can look through the BBS-related echoes for over a year, and not once see his name under the FROM column heading for messages. Everyone wants to know whether a game they love is supported or not. That's the basic question people are asking. In the past couple of weeks, its been said on this echo or in DoorGames echo, that he refused/refuses to give the most current Lord source code to Gameport. If that's indeed true, would that be classified as breach of contract between program author and program owner? If anyone knows answers to questions like these, perhaps they need to start giving them. Its easy enough to do the "bite donald's head off" routine for my asking questions like this. Its harder to tell the truth and stand by one's opinions, especially when you get flamed for doing so, in my case. But the truth is what we all deserve to know. Perhaps its time for a discussion of just how many BBS programs are now unsupported simply because the authors gave up on them, because no one expressed feedback about them to the authors. We all like to rant about one thing or other at times, but its been years in this echo since we had a good discussion about LORD that wasn't about flaming. That is sad, isn't it?
