I think that's the best thing.

If the teachers need stuff for their classrooms, the school system should
supply it.  If the school system claims they don't have the funds, ask for an
accounting of where all the school funds went - that should shake things up.

But I saw the same things when I was a kid.  My dad reported on the same things
when he was teaching.

My dad remarked on this when we went to one of my work functions.  At this
function, there were tables set up with pop, hot dogs, cookies and chips.  The
people manning those tables were just keeping things stocked.  You just went
up, took what you needed and ate them.

My dad said that if this was a teacher function, some of the teachers would
have taken a whole box of cookies/chips/pop to their car.  "But it's free."

So the mentality has been around a long time.  It's only gotten worse today.
