I used it with a FireWire cable. I just now tried to see if XP could see it but failed. So I tried unplugging the FireWire connector and using a USB cable but that hasn't been recognized by this computer either. Oh Well, another learning experience I will have to put on the ROUNDTUIT List to figure out why iirc the HDD worked long ago but not now. HMMMM?
