This post contains a question for the phloggers out there in 
gopherspace.

One of the commonly shared sentiments in the phologsphere is a distaste 
for the modern world wide web.  Read through just about any gopher hole 
to find reasons justifying this distaste.

But not all of the www is bad.  In fact, there are some really great 
non-commercial websites out there, still offering great content in the 
face of the exploitative, sensationalistic storm.  And we should support 
them.

So my question to other phloggers is: what websites do you *like* on the 
www?  In particular, what lesser known websites do you like?  No 
Wikipedias or Project Gutenbergs.  

My answer to this question is: The halfbakery [1]

The halfbakery is a communal database of halfbaked ideas, submitted and 
commented on by a community of members with a sharp, saracastic sense of 
humor (and probably way too much time on their hands).  Any user can 
submit an idea to the halfbakery, and other users then have an 
opportunity to vote on it and generally tear it apart with comments.  
The ideas are often funny, but the comments can be hilarious.  You need 
a thick skin to submit an idea!

The dynamics of this site concept have fostered a unique and fairly 
tight-knit community of users, some of whom have posted hundreds of 
ideas over nearly two decades (the site was started in 1999).  All 
without the need for javascript or, for the most part, graphics.  It is 
a simple website built around a good (or halfhaked?) idea.

And no, I won't reveal my username on the halfbakery. I do have my 
reputation as a serious person to uphold, you know.  But I will say that 
I have a handful of 2.5 bun ideas. :)
