Insomniacs After School ----------------------- Somewhat recently I read, and enjoyed, the manga "Insomniacs After School", by Makoto Ojiro. Thanks to Sandra for the recommendation! It's a high-school romance story in which a defunct astronomy club plays a non-negligible role, but I would hesitate to say the series was really *about* astronomy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the astronomy sub-theme and thought it was done well. I guess it's more specifically an astrophotography sub-theme, and I was initially worried that it was going to be "the kind of astrophotography that you learn about by web searching for astrophotography in 202x", which is to say "really expensive and heavily computerised", but it is actually good old fashioned "DSLR-on-a-tripod with long exposures and lots of trial-and-error fiddling with exposure settings astrophotography", and I was glad to see that represented. It also made me smile to see the Alpha Persei cluster shown in passing on a character's smartphone screen, rendered so accurately as to be instantly recognisable. Ojiro obviously has a genuine interest in astronomy of her own, which probably goes a long way toward explaining why that side of things was so well done. The love story which is the actual focus of the series was nicely done and enjoyable as well - sweet and touching, believable and not at all over-the-top. This quick and relatively low-effort manga review will hopefully be followed in the near future by a somewhat more fleshed out review of the Super Cub anime, and if that happens then maybe I'll finally tackle the Everest of reviewing YKK. Stay tuned...
