Arcs of bright flame burst and flicker across the sweltering 
pitch sands. A deep red glow crests in waves rippling across the 
expanse, dipping and curving out of sight in every direction. 
The air here saps your breath, and the temperature of the surface
is more than enough to make quick work of any footwear, tires, or
flesh.  Above the static crackle of the everburning ground, peri-
odic booms from deeper within shake the air, eroding and widen-
ing any gaps that might be in the cave ceiling.
