Original rules (c) 1994 Trident Inc. Any good On the Edge deck needs several ways of popping opponents' characters. You can't always rely on combat. Maybe you're facing a host of Pharaohs, or a blocker you just can't beat. Or maybe you want to pop more than one character per opponent in a turn. In any case, you should always have contingencies. The following is a list of cards which help remove enemy characters from play. The descriptions are paraphrased to save space -- please read the card in question for the full legal text. Pop-O-Matic ----------- Here are the stars of the show -- cards that can pop with impunity. 74 Deadly Inspiration: whammy Target Artist is popped. 86 Adelina Escobar Crank any time to pop a Burger as it is called. 106 Gremlins: condition Pops an Android or Cyborg. 162 Mutation: condition Pops a Mutant. 189 Dinesh Rajpal Crank any time to pop a Burger as it is called. 193 Ravage Crank to pop any cranked character. 239 Super-Vitamin Diet: condition Three on a Human pops them. 266 Holly Winter Crank to pop any cranked target, paying pull equal to their DP. A 51 Exorcism: whammy Pop a Nekros at any time. A 76 Andreij Kawierna Crank to pop cranked "Cannot be Attacked" character. A 81 Billy Kwei Crank to pop any Tulpa. A113 Islam Petri Flip to pop any Astral, Fringe, or Psychic he can attack. A137 Spaulding Manuscript: gear Astral user may crank to pop a cranked character. C 18 Yuzhou Chen Crank to pop any Astral or Subrandom card. C 39 Michiko Ishii Crank to pop any card with the chosen trait. C 71 Rain of Walrus: whammy Each character pops on a coin toss of heads. C 73 Recursive Time Loop: whammy All Throckmorton and Chaos cards are popped. D 65 Rita Milagro Crank to pop any Trident, after which she pops (no Save). D 82 Shake 'em Out: whammy Every non-Low-Life with DP lower than 2 is popped (no Save). D 88 Squeaks Crank to pop any character with DP less than 3 that he can attack. S 15 Desperate Ritual: condition Pop opponent's character, reducing this character's DP by the DP of opponent. Done on Both Sides ------------------ These cards flip enemy characters. The extra turn it takes your opponent to get them active gives you time to act. Make good use of it... 84 Empty: gear Crank target to flip an Astral character whom it can attack. 159 Abdullah Mustafa Crank to flip any character he can attack. 188 Radio Laser Satellite: condition Target character is flipped when cranked. A 56 Flooding Nile: condition Target character may flip to flip all characters in a file. A118 Psi Cat Flip any Psychic when it unflips. A129 Shadrach Crank to flip any Astral or Psychic he can attack. A141 Telekinetic Punch: whammy Crank one Psychic to flip a character. A148 Dr. Maria Valdez Crank to flip any Nekros. C 44 Koanhead Flip all Cut-Up and Control cards while in play. Go Ahead, Make My Day --------------------- Sometimes the best way to pop a character is to let it pop itself. Forcing an attack that favours the defender is an old island trick. 18 Amok: condition Forces character to bulldoze every turn. 36 Bestial Rampage: whammy All active Animals in play must attack this turn. 101 Fury: whammy Target active character must attack immediately. 191 Rampage: whammy All characters in target Conspiracy must attack this turn. A 75 Kamikaze: condition Force character to attack immediately. C 59 Paralytic Banana: gear Character must attack the legal target with the highest DP. D 72 Orders From Tomorrow: whammy Target Throckmorton must attack. Don't Move a Muscle ------------------- Or you could always let a character pop itself. 75 Deportation Investigation: condition If target Burger is cranked, it is popped. A120 Psychic Time Bomb: gear If this Gear is not moved during the Shift phase, character is popped (no Save). Getting Cranky -------------- Forcing an opponent's character to crank can be a prelude to popping them. Likewise, uncranking a character will allow you to control them. Either way, it pays to get cranky. 30 Aura of Evil: environmental Crank to uncrank any Compton. 149 Ricardo Martinez Crank to uncrank any character. 179 Portia Crank to crank any Human or Mutant. A 91 Ricardo Martinez Crank to crank any character or uncrank any Throckmorton without pull. D 55 Anya Huesco Crank to crank any Law. D105 Tanja Voss Crank to crank all characters in play. Skin a cat ---------- Sometimes you can't pop an enemy, can't flip them, and have no way of forcing them to mess themselves up. Never fear! There's more than one way to remove pesky characters from a conspiracy. 118 Hostage: condition Target character is removed from play and is popped if any of your characters are popped by that opponent. 132 Kidnap: condition Target character is removed from play until its owner pays you 3 Influence points. 152 Mind Control Messages: condition Target Human or Mutant joins your conspiracy. 180 Possession: condition Target character joins your conspiracy and is cranked. C 32 Fall of the Wall: whammy All Control cards return to their owner's hands. D 98 The Squeeze: condition Target character joins your conspiracy and gains ability "Last Rank". Question: Is Control controlled by its need to control? ------------------------------------------------------- Nothing is more annoying to your opponent than to use her own characters against her. Control *is* the name of the game. Once in control, get the target to sacrifice by attacking someone more powerful, or crank them to give yourself influence. Many other creative options are available.
