Responses to Christina's five questions for August: 1. What trinket, knick-knack, collectible, etc. in your home would you miss the most if it were gone? We don't really have much in the way of prized possessions, but we do have a couple of coffee cups received as wedding presents (almost 30 years ago) that I use every day. They were made by a potter up near Grande Prairie, Alberta, and I'd definitely miss them if they were gone. I don't like using anything else! 2. Whom do you consider a national treasure in your country? So the country is Canada. Back around 2000, Canadians voted Tommy Douglas, who created the first medicare system in the country, to be the greatest Canadian of all time. I'd stick with that answer. Honourable mention to David Suzuki. 3. What footwear do you prefer in summer: sandals, or sneakers/trainers/runners/running shoes? Sandals. Socks in sandals even. I'm too old to care. 4. If the answer is tomatoes, what is the question? What garden vegetable are we going to have too many of in the fall? 5. What tips do you have for making friends in a new place? I'm not good at this. When I have found new friends, it's been because I accepted serendipity and just went with it, or I was connected with friends of friends or relatives in the new place. I think if I have to do it again in the future, I'll test the theory that you should join a club based on your interests. Bonus Question: 6. Back in February, Christina wrote, "Someone please tell me ... that the [Zaibatsu/Circumlunar Space] gopher and gemini servers are not hosted in the US!" At that time, the Circumlunar Space XMPP server was hosted in Seattle. It is now hosted in Toronto.
