# The Risk of Mission Creep for Coding // 18-11-23 The [Dome][1] is almost functional: automatic setup of user accounts seems to work, it is usable, there are two other beta testers "using" it (I'm already looking forward to more stories from the Carbon Clique!), the git-shell access is usable as well, and I have finished the first drafts of the account request system. But there are already additional ideas pushing through: the usual mission creep whenever I've passed through about 2/3 of a project! Initially, the Dome was meant to be just a testbed for the idea of providing git access to a gopher publication surface. Now that I've seen it working in principle, I wonder whether it could be extended to a general git publication platform, i.e not just for git-controlled gopherholes, but also for providing anonymous git access to the user's repositories. This would provide an ssh/git-only and non-commercial alternative to the various "free" git...-services. Of course there are other similar offerings already, like notabug.org or gitbooks etc, but the present solution is in now way intended for a specific type of content (code, litterature or whatever), rather on small projects (due to the Dome's inherent resource limitations), which makes it more interesting for textual content. And in addition, as soon as it will be all at least in beta state, I will release the full code in case anybody else wants to reproduce the functionality on a similar Linux-based server (only on that OS I can do development for the time being, but modifications should not be too difficult for other UNIXes, because everything is coded as shell scripts). Of course I always hope "mission creep" actually results in something better! ˆ-ˆ .:. [1]: gopher://dome.circumlunar.space
